Singapore events for founders seeking a technical cofounder
Choose a real opportunity to discuss work, compare both people’s usable availability and propose one mutually agreed exercise before treating interest as a cofounder relationship.

Start with these checks
- Relevant builders and an actual participant conversation
- Clear starting-stage and preparation requirements
- A shared exercise or detailed discussion rather than matching labels alone
The problem
A generic founder match does not reveal whether you can work together on a real problem.
Make the collaboration question smaller than the company pitch
Write what exists, what remains uncertain and what you can contribute to examining it. Name the person’s task, the information available and the part for which you need technical discussion. A founder seeking a collaborator should explain their own useful work as concretely as the help requested: a permitted task account, preparation of an invented example or an appropriate operational question. Saying that you bring the idea leaves that contribution unclear. Keep an assumption about customer demand separate from evidence; the solo-founder discovery guide develops that investigation. This page concerns whether two people can examine a real problem together, rather than proving demand or allocating every duty of a future company.
Choose the working opportunity the programme actually offers
Read whose participation is invited, what attendees do and how much of the format permits a specific conversation. A presentation by a founder, a matching introduction and a facilitated working exercise offer different opportunities. In two invented formats, A introduces participants by interests, while B invites a pair to explain a supplied problem and discuss one unresolved dependency. A can make an introduction; B states a more concrete working activity. Neither establishes technical ability or a suitable partner. In its overview checked on 8 October 2026, SME Centre @SMCCI describes advisory, diagnostics, group projects and capability workshops as separate forms of business support. That context promises no cofounder service, current matching place or review. Use Boardzip’s free founder search after naming the conversation you need, then confirm its actual format and access terms.

Prepare a shareable account without handing over protected work
Use a short problem account you can actually discuss. An entirely invented task can show a relationship between an input, a decision and an output without copying customer records, private messages, credentials or a restricted design. Label what is invented and what the real project has not established. If actual material is needed later, clarify its sharing permissions and the appropriate setting before providing it. A private chat after an event does not settle those questions. An optional boundary sentence is, “I can explain this invented task here; the real material would need a separate permitted discussion.” This is wording to adapt, not a confidentiality agreement. The research-summary and client-portfolio guides develop their own disclosure contexts; this guide gives no intellectual-property clearance.
Ask about capacity for a named next activity
Specify the small activity before asking whether someone has time. Record what each person would prepare, the input needed, proposed work window, whether work is together or asynchronous, and the output each would review. Ask about usable availability after existing commitments rather than adding a general weekly-hours figure. Explain your own availability equally. A person can be interested in the problem while unable to undertake this activity in your proposed window. Do not interpret that answer as lack of technical skill or commitment to every possible future task. Keep a later discussion of maintaining and supporting a service with the existing build-versus-operate companion. Initial fit and recurring operating responsibility need different scope, even when they involve the same two people.
Check a wholly fictional pair of work windows
Both people and this exercise are invented. They propose a thirty-minute conversation together after an example brief becomes available on Wednesday. The founder offers Tuesday 18:00–19:00 and Thursday 18:00–19:00. Person A offers Tuesday 19:00–20:00 and Thursday 19:00–20:00: there is no shared thirty-minute interval, and Tuesday is before the input is ready. Person B offers Thursday 18:30–19:00: that matches the stated input and shared interval. B’s row answers this timing question, not technical fit or willingness to accept the exercise. A could still propose an asynchronous approach or another window if both people actually agree; do not silently change the exercise while reporting a match. These are chosen conditions for the example, not a required cofounder meeting length or a productivity norm.
Observe how the discussion handles an unanswered assumption
If the actual format permits it, bring one invented uncertainty and invite the other person to explain a possible first check. Notice whether they ask what completion means, state an assumption, listen to your available evidence and explain what would change their view. Record what they actually did in that discussion; a confident technology name is not the whole observation. Use the technical-uncertainty companion to compare proposals and prototype limits in detail. Here, compare how both people explain their contributions and handle an unanswered question. A short exchange can clarify a working difference while leaving ability and wider compatibility unassessed. Follow any later evaluation through a fair mutually agreed process; no attendee owes a working prototype to earn another conversation.
Offer one bounded follow-up with terms still visible
Summarise the shared problem, question to examine, contributions, inputs, work window, proposed output and remaining agreement. An unsent draft is, “We discussed [problem]. Would you consider [small activity], using [permitted input], to examine [question]? I could provide [contribution]. We would still need to agree [scope and terms].” Use only the contact route they welcome, and accept a decline or no reply without treating it as permission to start. An agreement to talk does not establish an agreement to implement, pay, assign ownership or work indefinitely. Clarify the appropriate terms before any work through the relevant mutual process and advice where needed. This guide interprets no equity, contract or ownership arrangement and supplies no standard percentage or agreement.
Keep the result at its actual stage
After the exchange, retain four entries: useful working observation; capacity actually offered; next activity proposed or agreed; and question still open. If the other person acknowledges the summary but has not accepted the exercise, record receipt with scope unconfirmed. If the first discussion is agreed, keep later build, operating and relationship responsibilities separate. Do not call an attendee your cofounder from a good conversation or a calendar invitation. A useful result can be a clearer problem, an explained difference or a respectful decision to explore another option. Before returning to an event, identify which remaining question its format could help examine. Free search provides possible listings; the organiser’s participation terms and each person’s actual choices determine the next step.
Questions and answers
Is attending a builder event evidence that someone can deliver my project?
Keep attendance, an observed discussion and demonstrated relevant work separate. A suitable event can introduce people without evaluating your whole requirement. Define any further assessment fairly and mutually; neither enthusiasm nor a matching label establishes delivery ability.
What should I ask instead of whether they have enough hours?
Describe one activity with its required input, work mode, usable window and output. Ask what each person can actually offer around existing commitments. In the fictional case, total weekly availability does not create a shared interval after the brief is ready.
Does the timing example require us to work at the same time?
Only the invented exercise chose a shared thirty-minute discussion. An asynchronous task can have a different arrangement if both people agree its inputs, response expectations and review. Do not report a fit by silently changing the original conditions.
Should a potential cofounder build something for free first?
Do not assume unpaid implementation is owed. A discussion or smaller exercise may expose assumptions, but any actual work needs mutually agreed scope and terms. The guide sets no fee, payment rule or entitlement to someone’s time.
Can I send private project details after a helpful conversation?
Check actual permissions and the appropriate sharing arrangement first. A friendly or private exchange does not establish authority to disclose the material. An invented task can preserve the question without presenting restricted information as available.
How do I follow up without deciding the relationship immediately?
State the shared problem, optional small next activity, each contribution and unresolved agreement. Ask through the welcomed route. Keep an acknowledged message, agreed discussion, actual work and formal relationship at their respective stages; use appropriate advice for formal terms.
