Start with these checks
- Actual contact role and requested follow-up identifiable
- Official vacancy and submission route available for an application
- Permission and material scope appropriate to the proposed message
The problem
You leave a Singapore career event with contact details but cannot decide whether to send a CV, request an introduction or apply through the published vacancy.
Start from what was agreed rather than the contact collected
Put the actual conversation beside the contact details. Someone may have explained a duty, pointed to a vacancy, invited a particular work example or agreed to make an introduction. Write the action they offered in its own words, and keep an action you merely hope for separate. A business card does not establish a request for your CV, willingness to refer you or responsibility for recruitment. Your first decision is what next step that agreement supports. A useful work discussion can end with a research task and no personal follow-up. Begin with the reply, requested item or official route actually supplied.
Use six entries to keep the follow-up inspectable
For each contact, record their relevant role; the vacancy or work question; what was actually requested or promised; the offered channel; any stated next action and timing; and the unresolved condition. Identify who is meant to act instead of labelling the whole row opportunity. Keep your intention, something sent, an acknowledgement and a formal application status distinguishable. A promised introduction can remain unmade, while a supplied vacancy link can already support checking the employer's process. Leave missing fields blank rather than adding a deadline or invitation from habit. Use these six entries to track your next action; they are not an employer assessment. They let you explain what remains actionable without converting every friendly conversation into an active recruitment process.
Keep the application route and its deadline separate from a message
Read the named vacancy's requirements, submission route and actual deadline before deciding whether to apply. The retained e2i fair information directs readers to individual role listings that may include a role booklet and activity details; neither attendance nor a contact changes the listed requirements. Use the employer's formal process when appropriate and record the state it actually establishes. A CV emailed to a person is not a submitted application unless that is the real process for the role. If the application closes before the personal reply you hope for, the official deadline still needs your decision; a helpful practitioner's silence does not extend it. For unclear application administration, use the identified recruitment channel rather than assign a work-discussion speaker authority over the deadline.

Match the evidence and permission to the actual request
Read what item is wanted and why. A one-page practice example, a CV and a formal application can have different recipients and purposes. Send only relevant material you can truthfully substantiate and are permitted to disclose. Keep a fictional exercise or reconstruction labelled; removing names does not automatically authorise underlying project information. The confidential-work companion develops that evidence choice. If asked for another person's contact, use the referee-permission guide rather than treating a helpful teammate or speaker as an agreed referee. Permission to use one channel for one question does not establish consent to a group chat or a continuing mailing list. Check the actual request before sending material; a preparation note establishes no employer document policy or need to send sensitive records to an informal contact.
Work through three fictional contacts without inventing an application
Every person and conversation in this example is invented. Contact A, a recruitment representative, supplies the official vacancy link and says to apply there; A has not invited an emailed CV. Contact B, a practitioner, asks for one anonymous sample showing how the graduate checked missing rows, through a stated email address. Contact C discusses the industry and exchanges a card without offering a follow-up task. For A, inspect and use the formal application route if it fits. For B, confirm the sample is shareable and send only the requested item through the agreed channel, keeping that action separate from a job application. C's card remains contact information, not a referral or an evidence request. If the graduate sends B's sample, record it as sent; without a reply, receipt and review remain unknown. Three contacts therefore do not prove three applications or three recruitment opportunities.
Draft an invited message around one question it can resolve
An unsent template could read, 'We discussed [named duty] at [event]. You invited [specific item] through [channel]. I have [actual action taken] and attached [permitted item], labelled as [coursework, practice or other accurate origin]. My remaining question is [one point within your role].' Include only what the agreement supports and remove irrelevant attachments. For fictional Contact B, a short sample can show the missing-row check without claiming production use or sending a whole folder of certificates. If B only agreed to comment on that method, do not append a demand for a referral or ask them to adjudicate your entire career. e2i’s coaching-preparation article recommends a clear appointment goal; it does not establish that an event contact offers coaching or must review a portfolio.

Retain a partial answer and choose the appropriate next route
Read a later reply against the field it addresses. A practitioner may explain the checking method while leaving hiring eligibility unanswered. A recruitment message may acknowledge receipt without supplying a selection decision. Record the answer's scope and reopen only the missing question it can actually affect. Do not treat an unanswered message as either rejection or a future offer. Follow an actual agreed next step or use the recruitment channel for its own administration; no universal reminder interval is imposed here. If there was no invitation to more messages, retain the gap and continue suitable research or applications elsewhere. If you receive a documented offer while another process is pending, compare its actual deadline with that process; an encouraging career-event reply does not constitute an offer.
Close the row with an action rather than a count of contacts
Write what you completed, what answer you obtained and what you still cannot establish. For a requested review, distinguish clearer explanation from a skill you have not demonstrated; use the project-evidence companion for that repair. For an application, retain the employer process's actual state rather than upgrading it because the contact was encouraging. A relevant peer exchange can continue when mutually agreed, without becoming recruitment or requiring repeated job requests. Use Boardzip's free career search only if a new session can address a specific missing duty, evidence or guidance question. Choose its actual format and conditions. More contacts or messages do not by themselves resolve the question that made the first conversation useful.
Questions and answers
Should I send a CV to every person I met?
Read their role and the actual invitation first. Fictional Contact A gave a formal application link, B requested a narrow practice sample, and C offered no follow-up task. Those agreements do not support the same attachment or route.
Does emailing my CV mean I have applied?
Only use that status when it matches the actual process for the vacancy. Record a message as sent and an application at the state the employer's submission route establishes. A personal email or event attendance can leave the formal application unfinished.
Is an agreed work review a referral?
Keep the requested review, an introduction and a formal referral distinct. Record exactly what the person undertook and what has happened. A useful practitioner answer does not appoint them as a recruiter or establish their willingness to refer you.
What if the requested sample contains private project material?
Use only permitted evidence, with its origin and limits labelled. Consult the confidential-work companion for an approved summary or neutral demonstration. Removing a name does not create disclosure permission, and an invented sample cannot prove a commercial outcome.
Does no reply mean rejection or an extended deadline?
Keep receipt, review and selection unanswered unless an applicable record establishes them. An official application deadline is separate from your preferred reply timing. Use the actual recruitment channel for administration and continue relevant actions elsewhere when the contact cannot resolve the gap.
May I add all the contacts to a group chat?
Obtain the actual agreement for that new channel and sharing of details. A card or permission for one evidence email does not establish consent to a group chat. A mutually agreed peer discussion remains distinct from formal recruitment.
