Singapore editing workshops: prepare for a provided Mac when you use Windows
Match the lesson’s actual computer and application to your setup, then agree which files you can bring, use and retain.

Start with these checks
- Named application and relevant version for the actual exercise
- Provided machine versus accepted prepared own laptop
- Required accounts, preparation and exercise files
The problem
You use a Windows laptop for your Singapore photography or video work, but an editing workshop provides Macs and you are unsure which computer to use or how to keep your work afterwards.
Start with the operation you want to learn
Name one editing operation or exercise you want to practise, then identify the application the actual course teaches. A photography workshop, a video-editing course and a software demonstration need not use the same files or tools. Keep your Windows setup and the teaching setup in separate columns: computer, application, relevant version and the exercise you expect to complete. An attractive application name in a heading does not establish what is installed on each machine. If selecting or ordering images into a story is the difficulty, choose a series-critique format; changing computers does not by itself provide that feedback.
Use the recorded equipment example within its scope
At the retained source check, Objectifs’ workshop FAQ said the centre used Macs. Its editing answer explicitly described Macs with Adobe Premiere Pro and allowed a participant’s own laptop with suitable software or a trial installed. That is the original dated equipment example; it does not confirm today’s equipment, a particular intake or another installed application. The question heading mentions Premiere Pro and After Effects, while the read answer explicitly names Premiere Pro. Keep that difference visible. Ask for the exact course’s current provision instead of treating a heading, historic FAQ or general centre facilities as a complete software inventory.

Build a setup record that can receive a clear answer
For the intended session, record the exercise; named teaching application and version if stated; supplied computer; your computer and prepared application; required account or login arrangement; exercise material; and the unresolved condition. Separate what the public page says from what the organiser has actually confirmed. If a version is not stated, mark it unanswered rather than supplying the version you own. Ask whether your setup can follow this exercise and whether the instructor can support it within the lesson. Permission to bring a laptop is different from a promise to teach every software version, supply a licence or resolve installation problems during class.
Compare the machine choices with an invented example
This is a fictional preparation case, not an Objectifs course or software compatibility finding. A learner wants to practise the named lesson exercise. Offer A supplies a teaching Mac, but the learner has not established the login and permitted file-transfer arrangement. Offer B allows a prepared own laptop, but the learner has not established whether their installed application and version fit the exercise. A avoids one unanswered machine-provision question; B keeps the learner on their familiar computer. Neither is ready merely because its operating system sounds convenient. Resolve the decisive missing arrangement for each, then choose the confirmed route that lets you follow the actual lesson.
Prepare only the material and access the course requests
Follow the actual preparation instructions for the chosen route. Ask how the organiser supplies exercise material, what participants may bring and whether a required account is personal, provided or otherwise arranged. Do not put employer production files, private client images or an unauthorised shared login into a public exercise. Use material you are permitted to show and work on. If a trial is proposed, establish whether the course accepts it and what you must prepare before the session; this guide supplies no activation, licensing or feature guarantee. A course’s allowance for an own laptop does not prove that a trial will be usable for your dates or exercise.
Agree what you need to keep afterwards
Distinguish your original material, the exercise’s working file, the completed output and any supplied lesson assets. Write which item you want after class and ask whether the organiser permits it and how it is collected. A finished output that you can show someone and material needed to continue the exercise can be different needs. Permission to retain one does not establish permission to copy every supplied asset. Keep your own originals separately and use only an agreed transfer method. Do not assume a centre will store your files between sessions, recover missing work or provide unrestricted access to a shared computer after the lesson.
Record the editing idea alongside the demonstrated control
During the actual exercise, note the operation being taught, the step where you lose track and the control demonstrated on the teaching setup. A useful note might say, “I understand the intended change, but cannot find the demonstrated control on my prepared setup.” Ask the instructor about that specific difference rather than guessing a platform equivalent. No keyboard mapping or technical installation instruction is supplied here. If the lesson is a demonstration and you cannot practise on your device, describe what you observed as observation. Do not call it a completed exercise or treat attendance as evidence that your own computer can reproduce the work.
Choose a route after the essential answers arrive
An optional enquiry is: “For this editing session, I use this computer and this application/version. Can I follow the stated exercise on it, or should I use the supplied machine? What preparation applies, and which permitted work can I retain afterwards?” Ask only about the unanswered fields. Keep the actual response with the exact session rather than saving a general yes about laptops. If an essential setup condition remains pending, leave that route pending. Use Boardzip’s free search for another editing candidate, then inspect its own teaching, prerequisites, equipment and compulsory charges. Reuse the blank setup record, refreshing the actual arrangements for every course.
Questions and answers
Does the old FAQ guarantee an After Effects machine?
Its read answer explicitly names Premiere Pro on Macs, while the question heading mentions more than one application. Treat that as the retained historical example and confirm the actual course’s current application and provision.
Is bringing my Windows laptop automatically the easiest option?
Choose after the actual exercise, accepted application/version and preparation are clear. A familiar machine may still leave essential compatibility or support questions unanswered; a provided Mac may leave login and file collection unanswered.
Should I buy software before registering?
First confirm the actual provision and accepted setup. A historical permission to bring prepared software does not establish a current licence, trial requirement or feature entitlement for your session.
Can I take every exercise file home?
Ask which originals, working files, outputs and supplied assets you may retain, and by what method. Permission for one item does not establish permission for all lesson material or continued storage at the centre.
What should I ask if the controls look different?
Name the intended editing operation and the demonstrated step you cannot follow on your setup. Ask through the session’s actual teaching route. Avoid inventing a keyboard equivalent or assuming the instructor supports every application version.
Can a computer lesson solve my photo-series story problem?
It can teach the stated editing exercise. Feedback on selection, narrative relationships and sequence needs an actual critique format. Use the series guide to identify that different result instead of expecting it from equipment provision.
